About the people who grow it

Coop Sol y Café was established in March of 2008 to unite over 1,000 farmers, 10% of which are women. Rice and cacao producers are also part of the co-op, which was formed to collectively make agronomic and economic decisions, to construct new and creative marketing tactics, to protect the environment, and to help the communities and families develop and progress. The members of Coop Sol y Café continue to work towards sustainable development for the future. They have already achieved numerous certifications, including Fair-Trade, organic, rain-forest, and others.
Sol y Café is in a cooperative alliance with other like-minded associations like CEPICAFE and CENFROCAFE to provide services to thousands of small-scale farmers, members and non-members alike, throughout northern Peru. Without such an alliance many small farmers would be left on their own, without access to the most basic health, education, and social services. The alliance provides loans that help farmers cover the costs of the harvest and materials in the coffee production as well as the costs of sending their children to school. It provides training and resources for members in other agricultural and economic projects like fisheries, beekeeping, organic vegetables, and handicrafts.
