About the people who grow it

Bali is a hidden jewel in the archipelago nation of Indonesia. Mount Agung erupted in 1963, killing many, and dealing a major set-back to coffee cultivation. The government acted to rejuvenate coffee production by providing seedlings to farmers. Use of pesticides is prohibited on Bali, and all fertilizers are organic, making this coffee entirely sustainable, and ideal for protecting nearby rain-forest habitat, earning it the additional certification from the Rain-Forest Alliance. Coffee is grown on “Subak Abians,” a traditional farmer organization similar to a co-op. The SA supports and advises in both agricultural and religious matters. Bali’s improved growing practices result not only in high-quality coffee, but a stronger community and economy.

Mt. Agung erupted again in 2017-18, causing thousands to flee, but with lesser devastation. Coffee production continues to benefit the island and people.

Indonesia’s arabica coffees, including this highly acclaimed Bali Blue Moon, have low acidity and strong body, which makes them ideal as single origins, or for blending with higher acidity coffees from Central America and East Africa.
