My own home-roasting setup

I'm a huge fan of this jury-rigged mash-up of a modified bread machine and an inexpensive heat-gun. I have used this method of roasting for over 18 years. It can roast 1.5 pounds of green beans at a time (producing 20 ounces roasted). I've bypassed all the electronic controls on the bread machine, and disconnected the built-in heat source (which is not hot enough). The machine simply provides a perfect heat-resistent container, and a bean-moving mechanism. The heat source is entirely from the heat-gun. Good air flow is critical for an even roast. So make sure your heat gun has good air velocity out the nozzle. Cheapest ones are best, in my experience. Periodically they will need to be taken completely apart, and have the fan blades and air vents cleaned with a good toothbrush, or something similar, to remove the accumulating oily coffee dust.
